Food, What?! Harvest Fest Fall 2009

On October 28th over 300 middle and high school students from all over Santa Cruz county came to the farm for the annual "Food, What!?" Harvest Festival. Organized by two of the "Food, What?! crew members, Jorge Arreguin and Brandon McBride, the day was filled with farm fresh activities including pumpkin carving, popcorn popping, apple tasting, cider pressing, hay rides, goat petting and goat cheese tasting, mini apple pies, and a variety of food, farm and nutrition workshops. It was a great day and way to share our work with our local community!

This year we grew some giant sunflowers!
Franky and Amber sold the sunflowers outside of the New Leaf in Capitola as a fundraiser for our program.

Food, What?! Gault Farmers Market

This fall we partnered with the Center for Agroecology and Sustainable Food Systems (CASFS) to run a farm stand at Gault Elementary. Every Wednesday for 6 weeks FoodWhat crew member Luis Medina sold organic produce and flowers to parents and teachers as they picked up their kids. In order to make the vegetables accessible to everyone, we sold the produce at subsidized prices comparable to the local conventional market. We also accepted EBT. Gaining more momentum each week, the vegetables flew off the tables.
